 The
BARAONDA SAILMAKERS history began in the 1990
during the America's Cup Challenge of "Moro di
Venezia". In that
occasion the present members of the sail loft
(Paolo Badiali, Paolo Favaro and Andrea Marengo), engaged in the Gardini's league, exchanged
ideas and opinions about designing and
manufacturing sails.
The experience went on from February 1990 until
May 1992 when the italian boat won the Louis
Vuitton Cup and became one of the finalists in
America's Cup. After
the Cup remains a wonderful memory, an experience
and most of all a longing for manufacturing sails
following the new ideas.
All this became a reality in 1994 when the three
sailmakers, again together, designed and
manufactured the sails of 51' IMS "Muteki" that
obtained good results in 1994 and 1995.
After the Muteki experience they needed to have
a permanent sail-makers yard.
In February 1996 the
"BARAONDA SAILMAKERS" was established in Caorle in
Venice's province.
Baraonda is a
copyright, but the co-operation with the other
sail-lofts is at the center of its strategy. The self-interest in
sport and in boat-races didn't delay in giving good
results.
1997-1998: Founet and Città di Pisino,
distinguish themselves and win many IMS Championships in the Adriatic Sea.
Founet
participates in the European IMX 38 Championship
in Creta with Vasco Vascotto and obtain 5th
position
1998: Andrea
Marengo is engaged by Bertelli to construct the
Luna Rossa sails, and he stayed in Auckland until
the victory of Luna Rossa of the Louis
Vuitton Cup
1999: It is the year of Selavy. The 40.7 of
Gianni Montagner showed to be the fastest IMS
sailboat in the Adriatic Sea. Shining of the
shipowner Domenico Cilenti won the Barcolana.
2000: Selavy and Shining are once again the
protagonists! Shining again wins the Barcolana.
2001: The sail-maker yard buys a plotter due to the
increasing demand of sails Baraonda.
2002: Sixty, of Giorgio Goldoni, won the Adriatic
Challenge IMS. Dodo Gorla on the rudder of the
Poison Tau, with Paolo Favaro as sail trimmer, is 2nd place at the Italian Ufo
Championship.
2003: For the first time the Italian and European
IMS Championships are run in the Adriatic Sea:
Bribòn, the new Rodman 42 of Giorgio Goldoni wins the
European Championship in Cres in the A group;
Sagola, the J109 of Fausto Pierobon is 2nd place at
the Italian Championship of Trieste.
